FAMILY RESOURCES DURING DIGITAL LEARNING

We have a number of resources for families while the campus is closed.

Personal Counseling will host student groups each Friday at 1:00pm. The first group will be this Friday, April 17 and the topic will be "Managing Anxiety and Boredom During Social Isolation." The topic and information on how to join will be posted at myFatherRyan on the Personal Counseling tile on the Student Resource Board each week.

These will be re-occurring groups with additional topics of focus: Managing Stress, Managing Loneliness, and Increasing Social Connections.

Students and parents can visit the Personal Counseling tile located on the myFatherRyan Resource Board for more information about online support services the Personal Counseling Department is offering during this time of digital learning.

There are additional resources that can be found at the sites below. Please click on these links to review that information.

Our Mission

The Personal Counseling Department recognizes that academic achievement, social relationships, and emotional well-being are not mutually exclusive. In order for a student to be successful in life, he or she must be equipped with the ability to manage social relationships and emotions in a positive way.

The Personal Counseling Department works with students to provide information and support that encourages the development of healthy habits and skills in order to maintain/achieve academic success. We strive to provide a safe environment where students can develop as a whole person spiritually, emotionally, intellectually, and physically as they navigate their adolescent years. We offer classroom/small group presentations, a peer mentoring program, individual counseling, crisis intervention, referrals to outside supports and collaboration with parents, teachers, and school administrators.

Support for New or Transferring Students

For incoming students who may benefit from more support as they transition to Father Ryan, we offer a Peer Mentor Program.

Peer Mentors act as guides and leaders to promote the academic, social and emotional adjustment of new students. Our Peer Mentors are upperclassmen who have displayed leadership skills, a service attitude and a desire to help others. Each Peer Mentor is recruited, screened, trained and supported by the Personal Counseling staff. Students who may benefit from a relationship with a Peer Mentor will be reviewed to determine an appropriate match.

Incoming freshman from public schools, small feeder schools, out-of-state schools, home-schools, etc. and sophomores, juniors and seniors transferring to Father Ryan from other high schools, are automatically assigned a Peer Mentor. Any other student who could benefit from such a relationship can be assigned a Peer Mentor upon request to the Personal Counseling Department.
