Stacy Swinea Named Head Softball Coach

Father Ryan High School is proud to announce the hiring of Stacy Swinea as the school’s new Head Softball Coach. Swinea brings more than three decades of experience in education and coaching, along with one of the most accomplished softball resumes in Tennessee high school athletics.

Swinea comes to Father Ryan after a distinguished career at Davidson Academy, where she has served as a teacher and coach since 1992. During her coaching career, she has built an extraordinary record of 833 career wins, the second-most career softball wins in Tennessee, including 19 appearances in the TSSAA Spring Fling championships, three state championships, eight region championships, and 14 district championships.

Her accomplishments have earned her numerous Coach of the Year honors, including recognition as the All-Midstate Tennessean Coach of the Year. In 2019-20, Swinea was honored with the TSSAA Distinguished Service Award for her talented and passionate contributions to coaching in Tennessee.

“Coach Swinea has demonstrated a passion for joining the Father Ryan community and leading our softball program. Her experience both on the field and in the classroom, coupled with her commitment to developing the whole person, will be a tremendous asset to our young women. She brings the leadership, experience, and heart to help our student-athletes grow, as we fulfill our mission to challenge every student to reach their spiritual, academic, and personal potential.” — Paul Davis '81, President, Father Ryan High School

Throughout her career, Swinea has emphasized teamwork, discipline, personal development, and creating an environment in which student-athletes can excel both on and off the field. Her experience extends beyond softball, as she has also served as a highly successful girls' middle school and varsity basketball coach.

“Coach Swinea’s record of success speaks for itself, but what impressed us most was her commitment to developing the whole student. She understands that athletics are an extension of the education experience, providing opportunities to develop character, resilience, leadership, and teamwork. Her experience, passion, and commitment to mentorship will strengthen our softball program while making a lasting impact on our student-athletes and the broader Father Ryan community.” — Frank Espinosa, Principal, Father Ryan High School

As an educator, Swinea has taught physical education and health at both the middle and high school levels. She has also coordinated numerous TSSAA tournaments and managed the logistics associated with team rosters, transportation, and field operations.

“Stacy brings an incredible level of experience, success, and leadership to Father Ryan. What stood out to us is not only her record of success, but the way she approaches coaching and developing young women. She understands that building a successful program is about much more than wins and losses. We are excited about the culture, competitiveness, and mentorship she will bring to our softball program.” — Ann Mullins, Director of Athletics, Father Ryan High School

Swinea earned her Bachelor of Science in Education from Tennessee Technological University in 1992.

With a career defined by sustained success, leadership, and a passion for developing student-athletes, Swinea begins her tenure at Father Ryan with a clear vision for the future of the softball program.
