Irish Swimmers Claim Two State Championships

Irish swimmers after winning placing 1st in the 200 Medley Relay

Father Ryan's Swim and Dive Team claimed two state titles, including the first relay state championship in school history, at the Tennessee Interscholastic Swim Coaches Association state championship meet in Knoxville. The Irish joined 880 swimmers and divers from 132 schools across the state for this meet.

The Women's 200 Medley Relay team of Parker Lynch '23, Gwen Bakker '23, Kaitlyn Barnes '23, and Lucy Trailov '25 won the state title in 1:45:46, setting a new school record. Gwen Bakker '23 also claimed the title of the 100 Breastroke Champion, doing so in 1:03:02.

Three other school records were set by the Irish:

  • 100 Butterfly 2nd Place - Lucy Trailov '25 broke the Father Ryan School Record previously set in 1994 by 2.14 and qualified for the 1st Team All State and consideration for All American.
  • 50 Freestyle 4th Place - Parker Lynch '23 broke her own current Father Ryan School Record by 0.31 and qualified for the 1st Team All State and consideration for All American.
  • 100 Backstroke 5th Place - Parker Lynch '23 broke the Father Ryan School Record previously set by Rosemary Bonadies '22 by 1.21.
