For over a century, Father Ryan has dedicated itself to a Tradition of Service, and the Hamrick family stands as a heartfelt testament to this enduring legacy. Joan (Garr) Hamrick ’80, along with her two sons, Christian ’17 and Andrew ’17, has embraced her family's calling to serve in truly remarkable ways. Joan plays a vital role on Father Ryan’s 100th Anniversary Committee, focusing on the Faith and Service sub-committee, and she has been instrumental in the planning of our 100 Masses—a role that reflects her deep commitment to our value of faith and service.
Last month, Andrew celebrated a significant milestone by graduating from the Metro Nashville Police Academy, further demonstrating his unwavering dedication to serving those around him. Earlier this month, Christian took a profound step in his journey as he was ordained to the priesthood, following his ordination with a full-circle moment of celebrating his first Mass at his home parish of St. Edward.
Service has been a foundational part of Officer Hamrick and Father Hamrick’s lives. Throughout their high school years, the brothers distinguished themselves by earning the Eagle Scout Award, a testament to their dedication to helping others. Upon graduating from Father Ryan, Christian was honored with the Bishop Alphonse J. Smith Award, recognizing his embodiment of religious principles and ideals in everyday life. Andrew was awarded the Bishop David R. Choby ’65 Christian Service Award for his outstanding contributions to the community, often selflessly serving without seeking recognition, while also continuing his calling to service by attending the Virginia Military Institute.
We extend our warmest congratulations to Father Christian Hamrick ’17 on his vocation to the priesthood. Our heartfelt thanks go out to Joan, Andrew, and Christian for generously sharing their servant hearts with our community.
