World Languages & Cultures

The Father Ryan World Languages and Cultures Department seeks to promote linguistic and cultural literacy, while cultivating a life-long appreciation and enthusiasm for all languages and the cultures they reflect. We believe that all students can acquire a new language and can use that language to become competent global citizens in an increasingly diverse, connected, and changing world.

The study of world languages is an interdisciplinary pursuit, which helps students develop a deeper understanding of their own culture and their relationship to the world through exploring other viewpoints from the world at large. The Father Ryan World Languages and Cultures Department integrates the five ACTFL Goal Areas of World-Readiness Standards for Learning Languages: Communication, Cultures, Connections, Comparisons, and Communities.
