Mr. Bontrager, a Mathematics and Wellness teacher, came to Father Ryan just before receiving his Master of Science in Mathematics from Middle Tennessee State University in 1987. For his undergraduate studies, he attended Christian Brothers University. Mr. Bontrager is a member of Basketball Coaches of Tennessee, and he has led the Irish to Basketball State Champions in 1999 and 2002, and state runner-up winners in 1998, 2001, and 2009.
