Bio
Mr. Kent is an English Teacher, Girls' Cross Country Coach, and Girls' Track Coach at Father Ryan. As coach of the Lady Irish harriers, Coach Kent has received two Gatorade Coaches Care Awards and 16 Cross Country Coach of the Year Awards. His love of running, exemplified through the 11 full marathons and 42 half marathons he’s run, inspires him to coach his team into being lifelong runners with a genuine passion for the sport. A native Tennessean, Coach Kent also attended high school at Father Ryan, and completed undergraduate and graduate school in Nashville. He received his Master of Education and English from Belmont University in 1994, and his Bachelor of Arts in English and Sociology from Vanderbilt University and Aquinas College in 1978. Coach Kent has received several awards including the 2016 Father Ryan Gala Legacy Honoree, Bishop Smith Award in 2013, 2009 Teacher Who Made a Difference from The University of Kentucky, WSMV Star Teacher Award, WKRN Educator of the Week Award.
