Doug Jones not only teaches Science at Father Ryan, but he also coaches the Varsity Boys Cross Country and Track teams. This past season, Jones’s team claimed victory in the Trinity Invitational, one of the biggest races in the Southeast, held in Louisville, Ky. The Irish averaged 17:10 at the 5k course and won the race by over 60 points. Junior runner Jack Clunan led the team with a final time of 16:53. Mr. Jones came to Father Ryan in 2001 to teach biology and coach cross country and track. Now entering his sixteenth year of teaching at Father Ryan he has taught Biology, Environmental Science, AP Environmental Science, and Introduction to Engineering. Mr. Jones attended Purdue University and competed collegiately in cross country and track. Before attending MTSU to get his teacher licensure Mr. Jones spent five years in the United States Marine Corps. Once formal school was completed he was assigned to the 1st Light Anti-Aircraft Missile Battalion as a radar technician in Yuma, Arizona, and finished his enlistment as the maintenance chief of "Charlie" missile battery.
