Faith in Action

A Tradition of Faith

At Father Ryan, our mission is to be an experience of the living Gospel while challenging students to reach their spiritual, academic, and personal potential. Through a foundation of Catholic values, our students of all religious backgrounds experience opportunities to develop their faith in an inclusive and uplifting community.

"Father Ryan’s focus on spirituality has allowed me to lay the groundwork for my faith for the rest of my life. Some of the most impactful moments of my high school career took place at the penance services because they offered me the chance to forget about school for a while to mend and strengthen my relationship with God."

Prayer

Prayer is in the fabric of Father Ryan’s daily life.  We begin each day in prayer, pray before meals and in classes, and offer the Rosary at various points throughout the year.

Sacraments

Through education at Father Ryan, students grow in their love and devotion to the Blessed Sacrament. Adoration is an essential part of our Penance Services and is offered every Friday in the Chapel of St. James. Reconciliation is offered by appointment with our Chaplain. In addition, we celebrate the sacrament at school-wide Penance Services in the liturgical seasons of Advent and Lent.

Mass

At Father Ryan, we encourage students to be present with God daily, as we offer morning Mass before school in the Chapel of St. James. Additionally, we come together once a month to celebrate the Eucharist in All-School Mass in the Catignani-Drennan Fieldhouse. All members of our community are invited to attend these events.

Retreats

Retreats are an important part of the Father Ryan experience. Class retreats strengthen the members of that year and help students grow closer to one another. The retreats feed each student’s heart through prayer and through the sacraments.

March for Life

As an integral part of our Catholic identity and mission, we advocate for a consistent ethic of life from the moment of conception until natural death. As a tangible opportunity to advocate for pro-life issues, Father Ryan students travel to Washington, D.C. each January on the anniversary of Roe V. Wade for the national March for Life. This opportunity is open to all students as a powerful way to be a voice for the voiceless.

House Chaplains

With the addition of our House System in 2020, new faith-based leadership opportunities emerged. House Chaplains lead morning prayer, help plan and promote service projects, encourage spiritual growth of all House members, and assist Mentor Group Chaplains with daily prayer and activities.
