Through a Father Ryan Mission Trip, participants experience a long-standing tradition at Father Ryan that will deepen their faith, help them grow in knowledge, and inspire them to commit to service as an integral part of their lives.
Father Ryan Mission Trips are designed to transform students through relationships with those on the margins. They are built on reciprocity where both the participating students and those they serve grow from and are changed by the experience.

Each year for more than decade, students have chosen to spend their spring break serving others. On Alternative Spring Break, Father Ryan serves at Mepkin Abbey, a Trappist Monastery outside of Charleston, South Carolina. During the week, students adopt the values of the monks: prayer, work, and community. They spend time in prayer and liturgy with the monks and engage in manual labor to support the Trappist monks. Each night, students reflect on where they saw Christ in their days.
Either over Spring Break or during the summer, a group of students travels annually to Bethlehem Farm in West Virginia. Here, students serve by providing home repairs to those living in rural poverty. They adopt the values of the Farm: simplicity, community, prayer, service, and sustainability. Students are educated about Catholic Social Teaching in action and come home inspired to live out their faith in the world.
Catholic Heart Work Camp
At Catholic Heart Work Camp, students serve alongside others from across the nation, providing various services for those in need. Students and chaperones are mixed into smaller teams with other youth groups to complete a service project over the course of four days. Each night, the entire camp gathers together for dinner and an evening program consisting of games, skits, Praise & Worship, witness talks, and much more. The location varies each year.
International Mission Trips
Father Ryan students have served internationally over the years. Three different times, we have traveled to Honduras to build homes for families in need. In addition, students have put their faith into action through a partnership with the Martha and Mary Orphanage/Home for Girls in Jalapa, Guatemala. Students also spent time at the Centro Monte Cristo learning about efforts in sustainability and social entrepreneurship. Father Ryan is always interested in learning about other international efforts for service and justice, and we welcome your ideas for future mission trips.
