The Neuhoff Library

The Neuhoff Library opened in 2003 and has become an integral part of the teaching / learning experience at Father Ryan High School. The objective of the library program is to create lifelong learners by providing students with a self-enriching experience that will encourage a desire for intellectual exploration, a positive attitude toward reading, and a scholarly proficiency in research.

The library serves as a resource center, classroom, archives and media center for use by the entire campus community. In the Neuhoff Library, students, faculty and staff have access to the school's outstanding collection of research materials and books as well as magazines, newspapers, ebooks, and audiobooks.

The front doors of the Neuhoff Library, facing out into the quad, were the original doors that marked the entrance to the Father Ryan campus on Elliston Place, and date back to the building of the school in 1928. The doors were rescued when the Elliston Place building was demolished and stored for later use. When construction began on the Neuhoff Library in 2002, it was the perfect opportunity to bring those doors back to their home on Father Ryan's campus. The doors now serve as a reminder of the great 95-year tradition of faith, knowledge and service of all Father Ryan students.

The doors are named in honor of Msgr. James R. Hitchcock '39 and Father Edward Arnold, long time principal and vice-principal, respectively, of Father Ryan in the 1960s.

The library is named in honor of Henry Neuhoff, whose family has long been associated with the school and whose generosity helped fund projects at Father Ryan for many years. The building has five study rooms, honoring Susan and Guy Darst (a gift from their sons Guy, David '65, Chuck '67 and Dan '70); Chris and Bubba Donnelly '69; Regina and Dick Hiller; Evelyn and Gene Mulloy; and Joseph Watson, Sr. There's also a Library Classroom dedicated by the Edward A. Stack family.
