Junior Retreat Information

Over the last two years, the school has been evaluating the retreat program. We recognize the benefit of a one-day program for our students. It gives our community the opportunity to pray, attend mass, and listen to speakers outside the “normal” school setting. However, we feel like a one day retreat is not addressing the depth of the spiritual needs of our juniors. Therefore, we would like to change the junior year retreat experience. We would also like to give more freedom to the students to select a retreat that would appeal to their spirituality.

For the coming academic year, students will be required to attend a retreat offered by the school, parish, or diocese. Father Ryan will offer a one-day retreat on Sunday, April 6 for juniors. However, if students attend the Diocese of Nashville’s Search program, Urban Plunge, the National Catholic Youth Conference, or any number of parish retreats, they do not need to attend the one day school retreat. We would like to encourage as many students to attend the various retreat experiences offered by the diocese and parish. If students attend one of the retreats, they will need a signature or a letter from the adult moderator of the retreat. After the retreat, please submit the note to Mrs. Patty Needham.

Also, I wanted to remind students about the junior year service-learning program. During the junior year, students are asked to work on a social action project. The hours performed for junior year are completed after discerning the topic in class. Therefore, students have to perform their hours during the academic calendar. Service during the summer is encouraged, but will not count toward the required service learning program.

Yours in Christ,
