New Student Groups
The Personal Counseling Department offers groups for incoming freshmen from small feeder schools, public schools, out-of state schools, or home-schools. These groups meet once a week at the beginning of the school year for 6-8 weeks. The purpose of these groups is to meet other students, share their school experiences, and have a little fun. Activities during these groups include:
Icebreakers and other "get to know you" activities
Challenges associated with being at a new school and not knowing many people
Ways to meet classmates and friends
Information about Father Ryan clubs, sports, and activities
Suggestions on how to get involved at Father Ryan
Please contact Ashley Johnston, Director of Personal Counseling, if you would like your student to participate in one of these groups.
Transfer Student Group
The Transfer Student Group is facilitated by the Transfer Student Coordinator, Jennie Corfman. This group is open to students in the 10th, 11th, and 12th grade who have transferred to Father Ryan for any number of reasons. Much of the time is spent learning about opportunities to get involved in at Father Ryan, playing games, and offering a break to hangout with new friends. The goal of the group is to help in the adjustment process of each student by allowing them to share their experiences, struggles and successes with each other. In the past, students have expressed that the group has been helpful in their transition to Father Ryan. The group meets weekly at the beginning of each new school year, and continues to meet periodically throughout the remainder of school year.
Please e-mail Jennie Corfman or call her at 383-4200 ext. 236 if you would like to learn more about this group.
