Lenten Reflection by Fr. Joe McMahon on Ash Wednesday
"The season of Lent began with Ash Wednesday. This is a season of prayer and penance that leads us to practice of a more Christian life. It sets before us the example of Christ. The meaning of Lent for us is a time of spiritual development; we share this with the entire Church as we prepare to celebrate the Easter mystery."
"I would like to make you aware of some things you might wish to take advantage of for your classes as well as well as your own personal growth during this season."
"The chapel, of course, is always available should you wish to bring a class. During Lent, we will have available on the table in the back of the chapel the Stations of the Cross booklets. Feel free to bring your class to say the Stations privately or together; you might also wish to coordinate this with another class and do this as a larger group. Traditionally the Stations are said on Fridays of Lent, but they can be prayed on the other days of the week, as well."
"Rosaries and small cards with instructions as how to pray it will also be available in the chapel. Again, feel free to bring your class to say the Rosary privately or together. You might also wish to take advantage of the pleasant weather and use the Rosaries to visit our grotto."
"I offer these suggestions to you simply to make you aware that they are available. These opportunities for prayer are not limited to Theology classes; any teacher may bring a class, should you wish to do so."
"I hope this season of Lent is a time of great peace and spiritual growth for all of us here at Father Ryan."
