On April 15, 2008 after an opening prayer by Fr Mark Hunt, twenty-four seniors and nineteen juniors were inducted into the Cum Laude Society based on nationally normed test scores (1200 SAT or 26 ACT), strength of curriculum (enrolled in at least one AP class), and grade point average (top 10% of junior class and top 20% of senior class).
Father Ryan is one of only four high schools in Nashville to be granted such a charter.
Dr. Russell Wigginton, class of 1984, was the guest speaker. He is Vice President for College Relations at Rhodes College and former professor in the history department there. His sister Sheri graduated in 1986 and his brother Derek in 1987.
A reception was held in the theater's lobby afterwards for the inductees and to welcome Russell back to Father Ryan.
