Parochial students from eleven parochial schools came to Father Ryan's Math Day 2007 on Wednesday, 3/14. Each school sent 6th, 7th, and 8th grade respresentatives to compete in the regular contests as well as additional 8th graders to be on the "algebra team" for the algebra test.
After a welcome by Academic Dean Sara Hayes, students headed off to the classrooms to participate in 2 different timed math contests: word problems and fundamental skills. When the testing was finished, the students and their advisors gathered in the Dining Hall for some refreshments and to wait the results. While the scores were tallied by Fr Ryan student volunteers and other math teachers, Mrs. Janet Tate, chair of the Math department, distributed the door prizes to the students.
Every person participating in Math Day received a Ryan T-shirt, a certificate of accomplishment and a gift bag. Individual medals were awarded for the top 3 scores on each test for each level. Plaques were awarded to the three schools with the highest scores.
