Armed with only pencils and calculators, students from eleven parochial schools came to Fr Ryan's Math Day 2005 on Wednesday, 3/23. Each school sent 6th, 7th, and 8th grade respresentatives to compete in the regular contests as well as additional eighth graders to be on the "algebra team" for the algebra test. After a welcome by Principal Jack Langton in the theater, students headed off to the classrooms to participate in 2 different timed math contests: word problems and fundamental skills. Every person participating in Math Day received a certificate of accomplishment and a gift bag. Medals were awarded for the top 3 scores on each test for each level. |

| When all the testing was finished, the students and their advisors went to the Dining Hall for some refreshments and to wait. While the scores of each team were tallied up for an overall winner by a team of Fr Ryan student volunteers, Mrs. Janet Tate, Fr Ryan chair for the Math department, distributed gift packs, certificates, and door prizes. Plaques were awarded to the four schools with the highest scores. | |||
