The Junior Morality Debates are an annual event which began in 1987. Dates for this year's debates are Monday, May 3rd through Monday, May 10th. There will be two teams of three to five persons who will debate each day's topic against a team from another class. There will be a panel of three faculty judges as well as approximately 150 student observers. Here are the criteria used for grading the debates.

1999 DEBATE TOPICS

  1. Whether or not it would be moral for the US government to impose gun control laws.
    PRO It is moral for the US government to impose gun control laws.
    CON It is not moral for the US government to impose gun control laws.

  2. Whether or not it is moral for the US government to limit immigration.
    PRO It is moral for the US government to limit immigration.
    CON It is not moral for the US government to limit immigration.

  3. Whether or not the death penalty is moral.
    PRO The death penalty is moral.
    CON The death penalty is immoral.

  4. Whether or not it is moral to clone human genetic material.
    PRO It is moral to clone human genetic material.
    CON It is not moral to clone human genetic material.

  5. Whether or not teen curfew laws are moral.
    PRO Teen curfew laws are moral.
    CON Teen curfew laws are not moral.
