The
Father Ryan Science Academy is a new program this year. It is designed
to provide a mechanism for advanced placement science students to explore
and practice the excitement of scientific research and discovery.
Below are some of the opportunities that will be provided to members:

active engagement in scientific
research with an adult mentor who is a professional in the scientific community
(limited)
-
participation in competitions
such as Vanderbilt Science and Engineering Fair, Science Olympiad, Tennessee
Academy of Science, Vanderbilt Brain Bee, Waksman Scholars (online-Rutgers
University).
-
present information concerning
important social and health concerns of the scientific community to the
FRHS student body (bulletin boards, ppts in the library, etc)offered to
FRHS students
-
read and discuss books and/or
authors of scientific literature
-
participate in "special" laboratory
opportunities (outside normal school hours)
-
participate in videoconferences
with various colleges and other educational institutions
-
maintain a designated bulletin
board at FRHS with topics of scientific and community interest (ex. dangers
of smoking, pet safety, etc.)
-
produce multimedia projects for
presentation and/or distribution to FRHS and interested parochial schools
-
research and apply for scholarships
-
participate in community service
activities
